Prologue
The goal of these tutorials is to give a detailed explanation of how to set up the game with a minimum of EA sims, and a maximum of ours.
We also want to do this in a very organised way, so that we can do this easily the next time we need to do a complete re-install. We can find all the things we need.
I'm listing what I'm doing - and you should do something similiar.
I've created a folder called Sims2 Installation to keep all our bits and pieces in for next time.
First up, I've created a sub-folder called Patches to contain all the patches that I need for every expansion pack and stuff pack.
I've got them all - but you include all the ones that you have expansion packs for.
You can get the patches from EA: The Sims 2 Update Page
You'll need to be registered to be able to download them (I think).
Step 01 - Install the Game
When Installing the game, make sure you install the patches as well.
Don't worry about what is created in your 'My Documents' folder. We're going to be changing things in the Program Files folder first so that the game sets things up the way WE want them to, when we set up a new neighbourhood.
Step 02 - Collect the hacks needed for Setting Up
Create a sub-folder in your Sims2 Installation folder called 'Hacks'
We're going to download the hacks that we need into this folder.
These hacks will stop sims being created automatically (except for the essential NPC's like Death). The anti-redundancy hack will stop multiple NPC's being generated for the same job (e.g. 70 tour guides, etc). The others will stop the NPC's being spawned ad nauseum, so we can have just the ones we want.
These all come from MATY, and can be gotten from a folder system.

The way to do this is to click on the folder that matches the latest expansion pack.
I have all expansion packs, so I will be choosing al for Apartment life. Once there, choose the folder called 'Hacks'
So I will be going to the folder /ffs/al/hacks/
Once there - download the following hacks:
Can only be gotten from the University folder:
At the end of these steps you will have
1. A game installed and patched.
2. The start of your Sims2 Installation folder with patches and hacks - it will look like the picture below.
Note:
At this point we have not gone anywhere near the files in the Program Files folder or the My Documents folder.
The Sims2 Installation folder needs to be stored away from the game. This is important because we want it to be saved regardless of whether the game is installed or not.
