Saving the Old Neighbourhoods
Why? So if we stuff up - we just replace the old ones back again. i.e. No need to re-install. Woot!
In our Sims2 Installation folder create a folder:
For each game and expansion pack, we're going to create a sub-folder. The reason why we are doing this is because we're going to store each neighbourhood by the pack. I generally only do each sub-folder as I do each game/expansion so I know where I am up to.
The Base Game
Make a sub-folder:
OK. Now we'll go get the base game neighbourhoods. The place we are going to is where the program is stored (NOT the My documents). On my PC it's located at:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods\
Copy the whole Neighborhoods folder into our base game folder.
(Yup - the whole folder - N001, N002, N003, Tutorial Folders and the neighborhoodmanager.package)
Now we need to do it for all the expansion packs. (You can ignore the stuff packs for all of this).
The expansion packs store them in a different place to the base game. so be careful to make sure that you go to the right place.
I do it in alphabetical order - because that's how it's listed in the Windows' file manager.
Apartment Life
Create a sub-folder = Apartment Life
Go to
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Apartment Life\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
And copy E002 folder to our sub-folder. (See what I mean? )
then go to
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Apartment Life\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods
And copy E001 folder to our sub-folder.
Bon Voyage
Create a sub-folder = Bon Voyage
Go to
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Bon Voyage\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
And copy the contents to our sub-folder. (A001, M001, T001, V001 folder)
You'll start to notice a pattern - with the expansion packs all the neighbourhoods are stored in the NeighborhoodTemplate folder, under the TSData and Res sub-folder.
So do the same thing for all the expansion packs as you have done with these first 2.
I'll list all the locations and expected contents for you here:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 FreeTime\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods
F001
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 FreeTime\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
F002
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Nightlife\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
D001
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Open For Business\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
B001
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Pets\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
P001
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Seasons\TSData\Res\UserData\Neighborhoods
G001
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 Seasons\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
G002
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\The Sims 2 University\TSData\Res\NeighborhoodTemplate
U001, U002, U003
So if all goes to plan, you'll have a Sims2 Installation folder that looks like this:
Note: Seasons only has a character and thumbnail folder. This is correct. Don't ask me why they did Seasons different to the other expansion packs.
As you can see - this step is not hard, but it is easy to get lost where you are up to. So double check when you're done that you have everything.
