I was supposed to get a laptop a year ago, but things happened, as they do and I didn't. I SHOULD be getting one with this years income tax, and am now looking at what's out there. Which of these two graphics cards are better for playing Sims, I believe that's the most graphic intensive thing I'll be doing with it. NVIDIA GeForce GT 525M (128-bit) 1GB AMD Radeon HD 6470M (64-bit) 512MB (Dual)

I have had both ATI and NVIDIA cards and both have worked well, but in this case I would recommend the NVIDIA one, Jenni, as it is the most powerful of the two cards, and this particular brand seems to be the one most often recommended by simmers. In any case, wait for CC's advice, as she knows more about these things than I do.

I'm sorry I didn't see this sooner. One thing you need to be very careful with is the thinking "if it's company x, because it works for others (or just me) very well, then therefore all their products or a given model will work well"-type of blanket statement as the hardware industry tends to be very "fluid"--one series or model may be better than others out there, but not always. It's usually better to take it more on a case-by-case basis in examining hardware instead. Having said all that and getting back to the issue of which of those two chipsets to choose from, I also have to which manufacturer of laptop you're looking into? In terms of benchmark results between those two chipset options, I would recommend the nVidia choice as it has more dedicated memory on the chip as well as a faster bus speed and much faster core (by a comfortable margin from what I've seen). It also uses nVidia's PhysX and CUDA technologies, which helps enhance the speed/performance of it and as you'll be using this primarily for gaming, they're nice features to have.

Thanks for getting back to me--part of the reason I asked is because there are some laptop manufacturers out there that are better than others (especially where gaming is concerned)... You're also more than welcome! Enjoy the new laptop!
