Alright, so I jumped in and did this. Interesting timing too since just yesterday I had taken almost all the houses out of the houses bin and plunked them down in Pleasantville. God, there are some ugly, ugly Maxis houses. But I decided to toe in slowly and do something fairly straightforward.
Welcome to 46 Bard Boulevard, Veronaville. I don't know about you folks but I hate all the houses in Veronaville.
(excuse the pics. I thought the game's camera's pics were a bit bigger on "large" setting. Apparently not?)
This house is a bit different from a lot of the base game starter homes in that the bedrooms are actually a decent size and can both fit a double bed. But the bathroom is skinny and long, and the hallway is just asking for traffic jams. Downstairs is totally blank with just that staircase getting horribly in the way.
So I went about this a little differently than intended but... whatever. First, I did the home to be used as a starter, just furnished enough to be under 20,000 simoleons and be usable and functional. The tenants need no major purchases off the bat. I tend to start new families with siblings or friends moving in as two singles so I set the house up to allow for that.
Not much change outside. Made the teenie entry deck a bit bigger and the front door makes sense now. Also removed a line of shrubs as they were sort of shrub overkill and limited the walkway.
Just enough space to eat, cook, learn, entertain, and pee. Shouldn't be any jammed up spots.
Upstairs is really just beds. Sims moving in don't have much use for bedrooms at first what with all the skilling and socializing they're doing. The bedrooms are a touch smaller but the hallway is actually walk-able now and the bathroom size makes more sense.
At 19,737 this house is move in ready for two singles and leaves a bit of change in their pockets for incidentals.
And now, for the house just a bit better than basic. Here the house has been staged, lightly decorated and should still be functional. The front of the house hasn't changed.
Improved kitchen. Teenie tiny house still doesn't leave much for counter space, but a breakfast bar gives eating and prep area now. Pretty hanging plant gives a pop of colour.
Improved living/peeing area. I entirely hate carpet so that is replaced with inexpensive and more esthetically pleasing hardwood. Rug and large vase beside stairs add a bit of visual interest. Still not exciting but better than it was.
Improved upstairs. Bathroom is outfitted, including a tub (my sims almost all end up with dogs at one point or another so a tub is needed). Bedrooms both have double beds (as they should!) so both singles can bring home significant others. Slammed a computer desk in one room, I think a sim can squeeze around the chair when its pulled in.
Terrible pic of the new back yard. Nothing changed except inclusion of deck. Has enough room to paint, cook, and entertain. Also pretty flowers on the ladder since I love that decor, LOL
Final price now is 27,999. Absolutely everything is Maxis.
Edited to add: I think I could have gotten more bang for my buck if I had changed the exterior paint as I'm pretty sure the veronaville stucco is expensive, but I wanted it to stay in the style of the other homes.
