As I had mentioned in a previous thread not too long ago, Firefox 3 is set for release later this month. However, the good news for those interested is that you won't have too much longer of a wait for the final release from the current indicators: it's currently scheduled to be released this upcoming, Tuesday (June 17). The Mozilla group is asking (as part of an event to celebrate the release) of any and all supporters as well as its userbase and anyone just considering or interested in trying it to please download the new version on release day. They're attempting to try and break the world download record for most downloads within a 24-hour period with the new release and are hoping to get as many downloads of FF3 as they can in hopes of breaking the current record for the Guiness Book of Records. To read about or pledge support (as I came to find, you don't have to give your email address or any other information or anything else really except for stating the country you live in, if you choose to pledge to download--although, it's strictly voluntary regardless as the number of downloads involved is what ultimately counts with this) by going here.

Will I get a reminder to update when I start up Firefox on that date?

CC, with the way the current reminder system is set up you may not get a reminder or notice of the update on release day, but possibly a little bit after that. However, this may change with FF3 given that it's a major version release versus an update to where they may set things up (especially given that they're trying to break a record on release day) to where users already using Firefox will get a notice--but again, it's hard for me to say one way or another with absolute certainty as they're still working things out right now with respect to this as well as in preparing for Tuesday and getting the final release ready for download.

Just thought I'd let everyone who may have tried to download it earlier, that the update actually went live at around 5PM GMT today. It is available now, however, for download for anyone who either wishes to use it or just help support the Mozilla Group's attempts in breaking the record.

I'm downloading it right now I did not get an update notice but I clicked on help and them check for updates. It was not successful but it gave me a link to update manually.

The automatic update system is sometimes amongst the last things on the list to get addressed since it requires a bit more work and the team in charge of implementing things on that end typically wants to check everything and make sure things are working as they should be before then. It's a similar issue with the notices at times (save that it's not due to extra work per se really involved as it is trying to make sure the main issues have been addressed first with regards to the release, itself, and that there shouldn't be any problems as well as checking over things on the "back end" and making sure everything is running smoothly). However, automatic updates for this release should be up sometime soon. I can't give a more definite answer than that, however, at this time.

I got an notification when they released FF 3.0 yesterday... It was a pretty slow downloading session as there were loads of people trying to download it. But I got it anyway. It looks awesome!

I downloaded it on Oscar yesterday, but I haven't gotten around to installing yet.

FF3 is no where near the memory hog that FF2 was. I would have six or seven tabs open with FF2 and be at 440K memory usage, and now with FF3, I am only at 110K, quite an improvement! I can't wait until all my extensions are updated.

I installed it on Penny last night, and I like it. I'll probably put it on the desktop when I get home from work.

I installed it yesterday too!
Though, for some wierd reason my Windows Live Hotmail keeps showing up in Classic Mode instead of the Complete Mode or whatever it's called. It doesn't on EI7, I tried. I think it started when I installed. Could this be connected?

I'm wondering if it's in the browser detection on Hotmail's end with this , so it is very possible the two are related--since this is an entirely new version release (as opposed to an update) and Microsoft's Hotmail team may not have worked on getting things implemented yet on their end with respect to this since it still might be "too new" for them to have worked with it. Also, I've a few updates to share soon with respect to how things went with the new release for anyone interested.

I emailed their support and they don't seem to think it's their fault. They're telling me to get in touch with the Firefox support instead but I can't seem to find it...

I actually have looked into this and you're actually not the only person who is said to be having problems with Hotmail in this instance.
However, in looking into the bug report database that's kept by the project there were nine reports (eight duplicates along with the initial report), at least, around the time I read it and a maintainer had officially been assigned to the matter. In thoroughly looking into this, they've actually found that the problem appears to be with Hotmail and "bad user agent [browser] sniffing" to quote the maintainer (basically, Hotmail not properly detecting Firefox3 and therefore not knowing what browser it is).
They've since turned the matter over to TE (Tech "Evangelism", if you'll excuse the expression--among other things, they're responsible for contacting and working with some of the larger sites on matters involving browser compliance), who in turn will be contacting and potentially working with Hotmail's development team (the support team would not have reason to be aware of what's going on in this situation) on trying to fix this problem.
Edited to fix a grammatical problem.
