Yeah there are few things to know.
1. When installing the packs - you may have problems with some of the expansion packs in the middle. If you install Apartment Life, then go back and Install the problem ones, it will work. I found from OFB onwards was a problem. 2. When you are installing the packs and so on - make sure you change your compatibility to XP, and as admin on the exe files. It has problems otherwise. 3. Order of Packs = Base Game Uni Nightlife OFB Pets Seasons Bon Voyage Free Time Apartment Life Mansions & Gardens Stuff Pack (which was actually a mini-expansion pack)
Stuff packs can be installed in no particular order.

Sorry for not having replied sooner--I've been swamped over the past few weeks (and still haven't even gotten around to locating all my packs yet!)
So, if I understand this correctly, from OFB onward is a problem (is it with the install or with the pack running in Win7?), but after Apartment Life (which I'm wondering if it's also affected), I would need to go back and reinstall OFB, Pets, Seasons, BV, FT? Would I then install M&G?

Hi CC - It can be a bit of a luck of the draw. The problem is with the install.
Some people have had trouble with some of the installs, and installing AL or M&G then going back to the expansion packs and doing them seems to work better.
The problem with OFB or onwards is because of the securom I think? and AL/M&G doesn't have it? So installing the last pack then going back and installing the others seems to circumvent the problem.

I thought BV was the expansion that EA began including SecuRom with (as Seasons and the expansions prior to it didn't include it), as I remember the huge controversy that happened within the community over it around then (and being thankful it stayed off this forum!)? Regardless, can't explain nor understand why AL and M&G wouldn't be affected. Thank you for the clarification and explanation of things! One other question I had that's related to all this is in the effect of any patches released after a given pack/their effect and whether that makes any difference? Also, were there any patches released for M&G after its release and are they available somewhere for download? Thank you again, Kiri, for all the help! I'm definitely going to miss this place!

There weren't any patches for M&G. Sims2 was pretty much abandoned at that point. All the patches are up at Simthing - EA Sims StuffCC - you are probably right, but I'm guessing to a certain extent that it's the securom - it may very well be something else entirely. But I was under the impression that securom wasn't included with AL or M&G?

No, AL and M&G definitely used SecuROM. It wasn't until the Sims3 base game was released that EA moved away from a strictly-software based copy protection software solution and moved to a disc-based solution instead (although, that wasn't so much due to the complaints from within our community as it was mostly due to the widespread piracy problems associated with the release of Spore due to an incredibly draconian form of copy protection that they almost used with the Sims3 base game (if they had gone that route, I would have avoided it personally). The disaster with Spore on that front prompted them to reconsider that idea and instead opt for the disc-based copy protection instead). I still haven't had a chance yet to put Sims2 onto my Win7 system (nor time to just find my discs) as I've had to take that system down for repairs (in all my years of working on computers, this is the first time I can remember ever having it happen that a "stock" heatsink fan's motor has acted up on one of my own systems, especially when it's barely two years old). However, I was wondering if there was a way of getting help if I may need it for when I am able to get to it? In the meantime, thank you again for all your help with this and for the links--I can't even begin to describe how much I greatly appreciate it and everything you've done!

I'm doing this over at Leefish and you can always email me at celebkiriedhel#@#yahoo.com for help as well. Leefish is www.leefish.nl/mybb/portal.php, but you do have to register. Feel free to email though - that doesn't need any registration, and I'm always happy to help a friend.
