If I could have steam coming out of my ears right now, there would be.
Last week I downloaded and installed a sim from a place that shall remain nameless ( for now) and since then, my game is completely messed up. I've gone through all my downloads, ran all my files through clean installer and cannot find the problem. I can only assume that there was something attached to this particular sim as my game ran fine prior to installing him.
I've been thinking about uninstalling BV anyway as my sims are prefectly happy to be home or roaming about in their hood, but this problem has brought my procrastration to the front of my mind and I'm not happy about it.
Anyway, if I export all the sims I have now, is there a chance that they will be infected this whatever that other sim has/ had? I really don't want to start everybody all over again, but if I have to, I will.

What sort of symptoms has your messed up game had?
It will be easier to work out what the problem is, once we know. Also if you pm me with where you got the download - I'll check it out myself and see if that is the problem.

Have you tried checking the package file with Clean Installer? Also, was this a Bodyshop sim or a in-game sim?

I haven't forgotten about this, I just haven't had time to load up my game and test a few things before I say what the problem is.
We've got a sick tortoise ( he'll be okay) to deal with and my son is having issues. His doctor is really concerned that he may have diabetes. Feh! Just what the child needs, something else dumped onto his health plate. He already has asthma, enviromental allergies and a list of food allergies as long as my arm. Granted I'm not in much better shape in terms of allergies either, but I don't have a cloud with "diabetes" hanging over my head either.
I'll post more details once I get a chance to sit and play without the phone ringing, having to leave the house for appointments, ect. With any luck, I'll get a few quiet hours in this evening.

I can't imagine having all of that to deal with, but I do know what its like to have multiple problems, and have one of them be Diabetes. (Are they thinking Type 1 or 2?) Give him a hug for me please! And take one for yourself!

So sorry that you have an added worry on your shoulders about your sons health issues. Sometimes being a mother does bring added stress on us, especially when our children are not well. Poor guy, and he has already enough to deal with, and so do you. I think you need some of these... and lots of good thoughts and prayers sent your way too! Felicity

Thanks for keeping us in all of your thoughts. Those good vibes helped as The Boy doesn't have diabetes like his doctor suspected. In order for the explanation to make sense of what is going on, here's alittle background.
My son is one of those kids that doesn't like to go potty when he's busy doing something. If he has to pee, he'll hold it to the point where he almost wets himself in the name of not wanting to miss anything. This habit as it were really rears it's ugly head when he's doing something fun like playing video games. Instead of just pausing the game and going back to it, he'll wait until his bladder almost bursts. I've been fighting with him about this since he turned 4 or 5 and no matter what I said, he refused to change his ways.
The Boy is now 11, he'll be 12 in November. Over the past few weeks he has started wetting the bed. He stopped wetting the bed at age 5. There is nothing new going on here at the house, he hasn't suffered from any type of trauma, so his doctor feared that this sudden behavior was a result of diabetes which lead to us being asked about how much water and other fluids he has been drinking, if he has been excessively thirsty, ect...
He was tested for diabetes last week and everything came up clear. The problem is that over the years of refusing to pee when he needed to go resulted in stretching out his bladder so when he does go, his bladder doesn't completely empty. He may pee for a long time, but 20 minutes later he can go again for just as long and it's this second "void" or emptying of his bladder that actually leaves his bladder empty.
There isn't any type of medication that can fix this problem. In order to fix it, it's going to take a number of years of behavioral changes so that his bladder will shrink back to it's normal size. It didn't become stretched out over night and it won't shrink over night either.
Now that school is out, we're working on the behavioral change. For everytime The Boy goes pee, he has to go again 20 minutes later. If this behavioral modification causes a problem when school starts, his doctor will have to write a note explaining the situation and what will need to be done about it. The Boy isn't going to like being called the nurses office so he can pee, so we're hoping that he catches on quickly and learns to manage this issue on his own. As for him not listening to me, his doctor told him that I was right about the possible effects of not going pee when he should and that because of him not listening to me, he has done exactly what I told him what happen. He then looked my son square in the eye and said "How do you like them apples?" The Boy didn't have much to say and grunted in the form of a reply.
Some parents may find such comments to be rather harsh, but we don't. Over the past couple of years when we've had a problem with The Boy, his doctor has always managed to get into his head and the problem stops. A good example of this would be earlier in the school year ( this year) The Boy took to bullying. This came after he spent more of the previous year being bullied. We did everything in our power including getting police involved when he was being bullied, but when he decided it was a good idea to become a bully, we got all over him for that. Regardless of what we told him, he wouldn't listen and started tossing attitude our way on a regular basis as well, so when we brought him to his doctor because he was sick, we brought up the whole bullying issue. His doctor told him that his career of being a bully was to end and told him how to deal with the brats in his class. The bullying behavior as well as the attitude that we were being given stopped after that office visit and we haven't had a problem since. The Boy respects his doctor and even though he says the exact same things that we tell him, he has to hear it from a third party and since his doctor doesn't mind setting him straight, we don't complain.
With all of that out of the way, the problem with my game seems to be that my male sims cannot get a job. I haven't touched my game since I started this thread, so the things I wanted to test haven't been done.
They can look for a job, but if I tell them to pick one via newspaper or computer, the game freezes and computer freezes. I do use careers from MTS2 and haven't had a problem with those careers until recently.
I'm not sure why this is only happening with male sims though. All of my adult female sims can get any job and it doesn't cause problems. There also isn't any consistancy with which sims this happens to. In other words, this problem is occuring with sims that have been in my game for awhile and it's also happening to new sims that are being added.
Cane has been in my game for quite awhile now and he's one of the sims I'm having problems with, but I'm also having problems with the new sim that I recently downloaded and added to my game. No matter what career I chose for either one of them, everything freezes, meanwhile a male sim that I created in CAS was able to get a job with no problem.
Prior to downloading this new male sim, I didn't have issues with Cane getting a job regardless of whether it was a Maxis job or not. On the other hand Pablo who has also been in my game for over a year now has no problems with his career and he's in one that I downloaded from MTS2. Christine is also in the same profession and I haven't had any problems with her either.
I haven't downloaded any new careers or hacks. I have to up BV for EP's and using the BV Directors Cut for MATY and the BV version of Insim. Neither of these have caused me any type of problems since installing them, so I don't think that is where the problem is. I do use Moniques computers which could be the problem, but would a problem there effect sims getting a job via newspaper? I've tried switching the computers to use to see if they can get jobs that way and those don't work either.
As for other downloads, I have downloaded a few houses which might the problem or it could be just a coincidence that this issue started after installing them. I don't know. I haven't pulled them to see if my game runs better without them. I guess the best thing to do would be to suck it up and deal with this instead of just avoiding my game entirely as I have been. I'm not looking forward to going through my downloads to figure out the source of the problem but I suspect that's the only way I'm going to find it.
If you've read this far, my hat is off to you. LOL I'm tired just thinking and typing all of this out.

I have found that some objects that come with downloaded houses will cause that house to crash when I try to enter it. I've slowly added folders and certain objects from other folders and have found some that will crash a house when I try to enter it even though I don't even have that object in the game. One way to find out is to use clean insaller and if it says it can't read something there's a good chance that one of those may be the problem. The other thing you can do is use SimPe to see if your things are all healthy. Do you use DJ's comprsseriozer to compress your objects? Sometimes large poly counts can cause a problem too. I also check periodically with clean installer to see if I have duplicate objects...that can cause a problem. I do that because if I download and install a house it may have something in it that I already have.
As for your son's problem I wish you luck with that. Tell him that he can also end up with serious kidney problems if he doesn't use the bathroom when he first feels the urge....I did and it wasn't fun.

I have read that some clothes can cause this problem, at least I think it was this problem. Change the problem sims clothes to Maxis clothes and see if you still have this problem. Good luck with your son

Have you tried removing the custom jobs just in case to see if it helped or not? Also, regarding your son, a family friend's daughter had a similar problem with the excuse that it was "never convenient" and after her parents couldn't seem to get through to her nor could her doctor (whom she never appeared to listen to, unlike your son), it took visiting a medical specialist (I think it was a urologist?) and his scaring her into what could happen to her by going into graphic detail about it as well as the humiliation at school for her to finally learn and correct the behavior.

I took Carol's advice with Clean Installer and Sim PE.
Sim PE found about a page worth of bad files ( most came with the houses I downloaded) so I removed those. I ran Clean Installer, removed any duplicate files and got rid of any bad files it found. Hacks come up red, but since there isn't anything there that I didn't know about, I left those alone. I also did a force errors from one of Pescado's hacks hoping that perhaps that would help. It says it cleared over 100 errors, but not the one that I needed it to fix.
I've also tried removing the custom jobs and there is still no change. Since I'm dragging my feet about starting all over again, for now I'm assigning careers to male sims through Sim PE. None of the custom careers appear, but atleast all of them will have jobs even if it's one that I don't care for personally. Group and Accessory cache have also be cleared, but I try not to clear those after every time I play as doing that can also cause problems.
The only thing left to do is go through my downloads folder. I'm currently taking a mental inventory of who has what and once that is finished, I'll be able to start the elimination process. If it gets to the point where I feel like ripping my hair out, I'll move everybody into the sim bin, keep the downloads that I know are good and go crazy with the delete button for everything else. It won't be the first time I've done that and it probably won't be the last.
As for my son, the behavior modification process is going well. He's beginning to self regulate and isn't playing around. His doctor did speak to him about possible kidney issues, but that was a introduction to yet another conversation about The Boy drinking too much milk. If given the chance, he'd drink a gallon a day so his doctor explained that if he continues to do that, eventually he'll end up with kidney stones due to too much calcium. To fix that problem, we now have a container in the fridge that has an alloted amount of milk in it that he can have on a daily basis. He has had to learn to moderate and figure out just how he's going to make a quart of milk last over the course of the day. He hasn't been cheating by taking milk from the gallon container, but if he does, I'll start marking the container so I can see if he has been cheating or not.
I know I did stuff when I was his age, but I don't remember it being this difficult. LOL My mother never had to bring me to the doctors for things like going pee when I needed to, nor did she have to ration out milk. I love the kid with all my heart. He's sweet, smart and funny, but sometimes I think aliens sneek in the house while we're all sleeping and they suck small portions of his brain out with a straw. If we get through a week without any foolishness I silently do a happy dance in celebration of having a "normal" week.

Just remember those pre-teen years are worse than the teen years because their growing a whole lot and their bodies are changing constantly. That's when the aliens strike you know. I'm sorry your problem still isn't solved. Maybe someone else can come up with something.

Thanks Carol, I'll keep that in mind. LOL
As for my game, it decided to blow up or throw up depending on which description you'd like to use. I was playing and doing my thing this afternoon, changed my desktop picture and now my neighborhood is gone. I tried installing my backup from a few weeks ago and that doesn't work either.
I really want to scream for about an hour, but that won't do any good and it will give me a headache, so I'm off to download a fresh copy of Directors Cut from MATY and BV version of Insim. I saved all my sims minus the one that I still think came with problems and a few other do-dads that I know are okay to use.
I called hubby at work and told him to pick me up some caffiene on the way home as I will be growing roots in this chair all weekend except to go to a graduation party and to do our usual Sunday errends. I may even spluge and buy a new computer chair as this one is literally falling apart. I keep finding screws on the floor and the middle of the seat is starting to sag. One of these times I'm going to sit down and end up on the floor.
On the bright side ( I'm really trying to convince myself there is a bright side) I can do a few things differently than I have in the past and maybe even create a story line that makes sense. For starters, Pablo and Christine were never sent to Uni, so I guess I'll start my new hood by giving them parents and sending their lovely children to college. It will be a boring hood for awhile, but the least I can do is give them "roots".
Have a good weekend all. Ya'll know what I'll be doing....
