After playing once I have realised that EA stuff i butt ugly, I need downloads. I haven't figured out the whole pattern thing yet, I'll have to look into that. But I have seen at Around the Sims that you can d/l houses, furniture etc. Should I organize them? Do I need a program like SimPE or anything like that? Plase give me your best d/l tips, I want furniture, clothing and hair meshes. Do I have to buy the hair meshes from EA? And if so, how? Later on I'll need a hood as well, where can I find a small one?

I really haven't done much downloading from fansites with this game, to be honest.
For any pre-existing looks to objects, clothing, sims, walls, floors, etc. I usually play around with CASt to adjust things like patterns/texture and colors, etc. to get the look I'm after with them as I'm not a fan of some of EA's choices...
However, in answer to your question about worlds, EA released a tool that lets you build and customize your own (CAW/Create a World)--however, it has a definite learning curve attached to it...
You can also make your own patterns using the Create a Pattern tool (also released by EA) to use in the game and it lets you preview how it might look on different types of things without actually having to load the game to view things.

Thanks CC, CAP seems interesting, maybe I'll be able to creta some nice walls. CAW is probably to difficult, I'll have to look around for a small island hood.

Have a look at CASt-ing, it can change the look of many of the stock EA things. Sims3 is very different to Sims2 in that respect - something that is butt ugly to start with - even the pattern, can be tweaked and changed. Have a look at this thread (Challenge One Room Many Themes) to have an idea about what you can do with CASting. Nowadays it's all about the meshes.

Stay away from the exchange Too many bad downloads there. Things that stretch babies and make pregnant sims nude on top or make sims invisible Of course if you trust someone there stuff will be ok. I will be interested in seeing sims you make, you always made sure great sims

I thought they got that sorted out with the Exchange? I remember they took it down for a period to make changes to it for that reason.

To be quite honest, I don't have any. Not too sure how to install them. I have downloaded some hairstyles, clothes and some objects. Not nearly as much as for TS2 though! I will be interested in seeing sims you make, you always made sure great sims oh yes! I agree with Countess on that one! Felicity
