Any ideas? *Updated*

Since my connection has been acting up at times and I had time for it, I thought to open up Sims 3 to play for a bit when I ran into a game-stopping and very annoying glitch--which I'm hoping someone here might know or have an idea into how to resolve. I feel on some level like I'm dealing with the Sims 2 "Jump Bug" all over again (and lost many a sim to that issue when it happened).
It seems when I left off, I had two sims who had a baby, who was about to age up to toddler and they were throwing a party for their little one.
For some really bizarre reason I can't explain, both parents and then the baby periodically keep disappearing (as in they either became invisible or else would just disappear, but with their little head image visible from the GUI/UI but were otherwise inaccessible). I tried using the resetsim cheat to bring them back and it would sometimes work when I had that sim selected, but sometimes not and the sim would sometimes disappear anew (the exception to this was when it happened to the baby who became completely inaccessible).
It also would happen that the little image that appears when you want to know where a sim is would only sometimes show one of the parents (again, once the baby disappeared, it was gone). Also, even though my sims only invited one guest, two actually appeared--and both actually ended up disappearing as a result of this bizarre glitch.
Also, actions either began to pop out of the queue or would fail to stick or I could click on them multiple times (and sometimes something would happen, othertimes not). One sim who kept taking things to the recycling bin (dead plants) would walk over there, and it seemed she put the bags in, but instead the contents somehow ended up all over the ground beside it (this happened every time). I couldn't even click on it to move it with the hand tool, so had to have a sim go over and pick it up and put it in. The sims seemed to disappear usually when trying to give them something to do.
Just as when my sim tried to take the baby over to the cake, the action kept coming up with a dialog box about the sim's birthday, but as the baby had disappeared, nothing happened and the sims disappeared again.
I just exited out of my game and didn't bother to save it as this is actually not the first time I've had sims disappear (the last time I did try to save it, it continued, so I know it can't be my system resources to blame--however, that time, it was only one sim and they did reappear after resetting them and there were no further problems).
One sim strangely became invisible until I reset them (and both sims had their queues frozen in the meantime or had things drop from it) while the other one was fine and the female sim had it happen to her whilst pregnant (the first time as she was transitioning to show her pregnant belly).
I also don't know if this is related or not, but another issue I had is that whilst the female sim was pregnant, I couldn't customize her maternity clothing at all--it gave me a rather hideous dress that came as part of a set from the official shop, regardless of what "option" I generally picked (I meant to ask how one actually went about customizing maternity clothing--and am still curious to know this or am wondering if it's glitched). The exception being formal wear--and even with casual wear, they were all variations of the same non-shop dress (except some with tights or leggings from what I could see in the thumbnails, some without--it was also the same dress for formal and is a default from the base game), except when I clicked on one of them for her to change into, regardless of what I picked for casual, it reverted back to the hideous shop dress.
However, the dress did not show a belly, but kept the animations as though she were showing (she only was showing when she changed into her formal clothing).
On a side note, one of my sims had their car stuck at the consignment shop (they were there before they were due in to go to work, ended up late and their car has been stuck there ever since along the road--I can't remove it).
I don't know if this makes any difference or not, but the neighborhood I'm playing in is Bridgeport (on a regular residential lot). I do not have any mods in my game whatsoever.
So, if anyone has any ideas as to how to resolve any of this or what may be going on with my game--especially with the disappearing sims--I would greatly appreciate it!
