OK I "might" give a try at TS3 on my laptop because with all EPs AND all SPs TS2 is too much for my laptop even if I have a pretty recent one. When I purchased it my 2 main concerns were lightweight to travel with and a DVD player to have films to look at when travel ling. So it's not really a player's computer... So, I find playing TS3 vanilla a little dull... and I was wondering if you had any suggestions for free sites. I already know Sandy's ATS for wonderful objects I have always loved All About Styling for wonderful clothes and I can see she has TS3 clothing and patterns Do you have other suggestions? Also I would be definitely looking for nice hair. I went to Peggy Sims in the free section, but even though I found a couple of nice ones a lot just looks like Japanese manga hair (no offense intended) Another question. I find on most sites it says that the download is provided in 2 formats: the first is .package which you have to open and install in a My Downloads folder that you have to create and the other one is an icon of TS3 that you only have to double-click. I would rather use the first if only for organizing my stuff but is there a way that's better than the other? I know you girls download a lot, I am looking for all the advice you can give. Also I read that Pets would wipe out your custom content but I don't have Pets. I have all EPs up to Generations. Ya call me crazy but I bought them even though I didn't play and much preferred TS2!!! That's a Prima Simmerina for you added later onI was also wondering about "mesh" and "skin" I tried downloading a hairdo I found cute on the exchange (by the way is that ok and safe?) but after downloading it my game gave me a message saying installation failed because I needed "superior content" (in french) but no details as to where and how I could get it.

If you haven't seen it yet, this is a link to a "must-have" thread we had a little while ago. I think all of my favorites were listed. This is a tool that I use to convert things to .package files, so that I can organize my files like you said you'd like to be able to do. Pets, from what I've seen, breaks the animations for custom objects. Your hair, clothes, and make up will be fine, and since decorative objects don't really have any animations, I don't think they need to be fixed either. Surfaces and seating can get pretty weird though. In some cases you can easily fix things yourself with this tool, but sometimes (especially with beds) you should check to see if the creator of the object has updated it for Pets. I never download things from the exchange, so I'm afraid I can't really give you much help there. I hope my explanations make sense... Edit: Could "superior content" mean content from an EP or Stuff Pack or the store that you don't have? Or that your patches aren't as up-to-date as they need to be?

^^ What Whitney said. Also the "superior content" could be store stuff, as that is often referred to as "premium content" (I think...my brain is not always good at this memory thing). Good luck!

Thank you Whitney and Thea. I guess I didn't go on page 2 I only saw the post with "useful links" which is locked on top but it was mostly about hacks or mods and I am far from that. Anyway I was looking mostly for hair and Jessica had a fabulous link, so I'm happy. Thanks again,

It wasn't stickied before - but I've stickied it now - so it's right at the top. I've also started including some links in the Useful Links.

If you download sims from the exchange make sure they have a very low file size or content will be included and you have no way of knowing. Some outfits are made to show for nude and pregnant that will never show in create a sim. These can cause all kids of problems so best to avoid the exchange if the sim is not listed as being kb, less than one MB.

I think the girls already gave you the info you needed, so just wanted to say that I am very happy that you decided to give TS3 another chance, Margot! Can't wait to see your pictures.

Thank you Kiri for "stickying" (sp?) it. I am sure I will need it again if I keep up with TS3. I will probably have beginners questions as well and I will take them here... CC too late!!! I saw I very beautiful Sim on the Exchange and downloaded and installed her. I did find some cc in my game now (a gorgeous hair for one and earrings I absolutely love) but I couldn't find the Sim in my Create a Sim. After a long (very long) time of trying using the dices, I finally took another face but I used the hair and the earrings! So it's good for me. But I will take your advice and not download there anymore. That was before Whitney gave "THE" link!!! Jessica, I love the Anubis site for hair. However there are some hair I love that need a mesh from a paying website It says "Give a donation if you wish to download". I don't call that a donation, I call that paying. That makes me mad. Call a cat, a cat, not a furry animal that purrs! So I won't do it on principle and I am going to make a donation to Sandy's website instead! I was wondering, on the Anubis site when there are 2 files to download for one hair, she writes this: Two versions available: EA's highlights and Adjust-Shine highlights and then she writes sometimes that both can be used at the same time but sometimes not. Which would you select if only one can be used? I don't get the difference between the two? Thank you all for your help. As always, this is the best place to come!

Actually Sylphide - you don't need to go get the mesh - it's included in the download. So you can download any hairs from Anubis' site and they should turn up. I learnt that lesson the hard way.
Also - you won't find the sims in the Create a Sim - you'll find them in as a household from the Exchange.

If you download a sim they should appear in the premade sims in create a sim. The button has a bunch of shadows of faces. That is unless they are a household like Kiri said
