Everything's in and loaded, but I'm still in test mode as I have so much to learn with Win 7 and the other new apps.
Have to laugh at how we all base our PC needs on our sims' games. Moon - I applaud you for sticking to your guns with your PC build!

Hi Prudence! And Hello everyone I don't know yet I play Sims 3. I just can't switch between games. I mainly build, but I do a little playing here and there. I like to develop story lines for my sims and hoods.

Ack! I had thought I posted to this thread earlier. I've actually had Sims 1 since its release date (but a gamer going back to childhood)--I had been a Sim City player who saw the teaser for it (as they used to send out trailers/teasers for new or upcoming games on current releases back then, which you could then watch via the game launcher/installer) and remember thinking it felt like a game I'd be more than interested in. So, the next day when I was able to get online, I remember checking the site and that it was to be released that Tuesday and went into the shop to get it. The problem I had back then, however, was that my computer at the time wouldn't run it/didn't meet the specs and a new one was out of the question for me at that time, so I asked someone I knew who was also a system builder and had just built a new system fairly recently if they'd let me play--which they agreed to, but only one day on a weekend (after I got chided for purchasing a game knowing I couldn't play it on my own computer, but that's beside the point... ), and I had to uninstall the game and risk losing my saves each time as part of their "conditions". They let me install Livin' Large and House Party but one issue that always arose was that system's constant overheating (it had gone on from the start without any real solution to it--changing cases, more fans, better ventilation, etc. it continued) which often resulted in my having to shut that system down for a while to keep it from getting any worse. It also meant I was simless for a while... Around that summer, though, I finally built a new system. I was able to play Sims 1 and into Sims 2 on it generally without incident (although, I did have to replace my motherboard and have done a few upgrades since then, including more RAM and a better video card as well as the power supply and changing versions of Windows) and am still actually running that system (in fact, I'm typing from it now). However, while Sims1 is still installed, I honestly can't remember the last time I actually played the game. The funny part about all this, though, is that after I got Sims3 and installed it (and every expansion up through Pets) and then Medieval and began having problems with the latter in terms of getting it to run (along with many other players), I was actually contacted by a high ranking support person who then apparently passed along my situation to someone who worked on the game. They were stunned if not shocked I was even able to run Sims3 and all the expansion packs I had up until that time on that system at all as they didn't think it should have been possible--curiously, I noticed after that, the system requirement wording changes slightly to where my system was excluded (I did have some issues where I couldn't run it for long, though, and had to run it at the lowest settings--but hey, it ran, so...). However, unlike that system where my requirements were partly based upon a need to run Sims (and later Sims2), with my newest system that I just built earlier this year, my needs for building it were actually very different--Sims3 had crossed my mind, but it actually wasn't the determining factor into my hardware choices, nor was it why I built it. I had been overdue (or some might argue long overdue...) for a new computer--I couldn't afford to build a new one, however, and to some extent couldn't when I did recently. So, in lieu of Christmas presents, I received financial help toward paying for my components and built a new system earlier this year. However, my main factors for it were actually what the software for school required--for better or worse, Sims3 had to take a backseat to that (but it has benefited... ). While I hope to eventually put a 64-bit version of Win7 Pro on there when I can afford it as well as add more RAM to that system when it gets to that point, for now, my game has been handling quite nicely.

Oh, Charlie, how I wish I had your mad skills. I'd love to be able to build my own system. I'm really liking Win7, but positively hated Windows 8 (I had a PC with Win8 to test for a day - it went promptly back). I'm wanting to get a new laptop, but finding one with all the specs I want and anything but Windows 8 is proving to be a huge challenge.
Plus, there's the whole challenge of even being able to play Sims 2 on Win8. Does anyone know of any success stories in that regard?

My brother actually just helped his girlfriend with picking out a new laptop recently and it still has Windows 7 on it--I could try and ask him the make of it.
He also just recently got one as well where he works that also has Windows 7 on it that was brand new (his company won't support Windows 8, given the nature of what they do and the tools they use, so it had to be Windows 7).

Thanks, Charlie. I did find some Win7 laptops, especially "for business" builds, but I've decided to defer and stick with the old one for now. If I get a job next year, I may put the extra "fun" money toward a new one.
