Have you ever had a themed game, one that was based on a book or movie or series?
Back in the old Sim 1 days, I had a game that was a modern update of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice" and this week I loaded an old test hood and discovered that I had based it on the "Sharpe" tv series (the one starring Sean Bean as Richard Sharpe). I had the Sharpes, Coopers, Harpers all there. I've been enjoying seeing them all again.

I think themed games sounds very interesting, but I know with myself that I'd not be able to stick with the theme I do tend to name my sims children after characters in books, tv and film though. And I have tried making some characters from a book series (I like that more than making from tv/film, because then they don't have anyone specific to look like, I can make my own interpretation based on the description in the book). Do you have pics of any of those hoods by any chance?

I second Thea's request - I'd love to see some pics of those hoods. I'm always intensely curious about people's hoods and layouts.

A few years ago, when I was still playing TS2, I had a medieval neighbourhood based on the fantasy world Marcos and I base our roleplaying sessions on, and it was filled with sims of our original characters. It was fun to set up but I didn't play it for long for some reason.
I also played those sims in a semi-modern setting for a short while before getting everything to look medieval.

My Sharpe series, like the old P&P one, was a modern update. I paired the characters and gave them careers close to the series, but after that, it was just simming. So "theme" was probably a stretch, lol. Here's a pic of the hood itself -- Bramble Bluff. It was a test hood, so I kept it small and mostly residential, though the area toward the waterfall is all community lots. If I were to play it long-term, I would add a more urban downtown to it. I'll try to grab more pix as I play. The Sims 1 pix are all gone, lost long ago (sob!). Jessica - With all the medieval stuff out there now, have you ever thought about resurrecting it?

That's a very pretty hood - and I love the layout. (I recognise the terrain I think?)
I was working on a medieval hood at one point, but I gave up because of the amount of work it was involving. Now I'll be happy if I just get SVW to work.

That is an adorable terrain, Prudence! It looks great. Is it one of the Tiny Terrains from ModtheSims? Is there a lot more medieval stuff now? That would be an interesting project. I remember I drove my poor boyfriend crazy asking him to tell me how his character's personalities would be after being converted to Sims numbers. We had to repeat it multiple times too, I think, because of my many attempts at creating the themed world. It was fun though.

That hood looks very nice, Pru! Oh, that sounds very interesting Jessica! (and a lot of work ) Maybe one day I'll have a literature or tv-themed hood (because I can't stick to just one book or tv show )

There's a huge amount of Medieval stuff now Jess - Plumbob Keep is a great resource, they churn out so much stuff I'm in love it with all. If I ever did go back to doing my Medieval hood, I'd be downloading Plumbob Keep.

I've attempted different themes at different times with all three games, but then usually ran into a lack of time to really do much with them. The last time I had a chance to open up Sims2, for example, I was working on building an entire city, suburbs, etc. with a central theme to it and even came up with an entire history behind it--ironically, at the time I started it about two years ago, I had nicknamed it a "never-ending project" and that's what it's become as I've had a hard time finding time to actually work on it (and being an admitted perfectionist has not helped me in this case ). With Sims3, I've sometimes designed lots that were in keeping with the "theme" or architecture of a given world and inspired by them and playing against that. For example, most recently, with Supernatural and Moonlight Falls (I think that's the name of the world it shipped with?), I had been working on the theme of what the town may have been like during the Victorian period (inspired by much of the architecture in that town as well as somewhat by the supernatural elements of the pack) and had been working on one lot, in particular, where I had thought of this entire history for it and was also inspired by some of the items we got with the pack. Unfortunately, a bad combination of perfectionism and lack of time has prevented me from getting anywhere near completing it and I believe I may have ended up moving it to the bin until I get more time/energy to work on it again (and just needing a break from building). However, I do have a few screenshots of a few rooms that I had taken of it (I'm hoping to somehow get the time in to upload them along with a few other screenshots of other lots I've done to show).

I have had a couple of sims that were based on characters but I never did much with them other than just play. I don't get too technical with my game, usually

All my games are themed! I should start threads with my pics. I have a medieval hood, a Steampunk hood called Tinkerham, a North African/Andalusian/Greek and Roman hood, a Country hood, a sci fi hood, a retro-suburban hood, and a Asian and Pacific Island hood. I play fast and lose with my themes because if I strive too much for authenticity the parts of the game that don't match would bother me too much. Plus there is a certain cultural colonialism to appropriating "other" cultures to reproduce them "authentically" in the game, so I'd rather stay clearly on the side of fantasy so as not to offend anyone by claiming to represent them. (Sorry, I can't stop myself from thinking these kinds of things )

Jessica - Sorry I've been sooo slow in responding. Yes, my Bramble Bluff is one of Loverat's tiny terrains from MTS. I can't remember the real name of this one, but the other one I use is called Incy Isle (I renamed it Mystic Isle).
Thea - Thanks!
Charlie - My entire game is a "never-ending project." At first, I tried to get it "finished," now I realize that it's ever evolving and I love that I continue to tweak and improve, here and there.
Karen - I already commented in the Hoods thread, but have to say again that your hoods are really pretty.
I enjoyed playing Sims Castaways, but hated that it just stops and you can't extend the life or hood, and have sometimes thought that it would be fun to do a castaway island theme hood. Maybe in that far-off, mythical day when I have all the time in the world.... lol.

Thanks Pru!
There are plenty of small worlds out there to build a castaway hood on once you do get that mythical day!
