Given the severity of this problem, this was one news item I felt just could not wait until whenever the next time will be that I may even have the time to devote to posting more news.
This article does not go into the full extent of what happened, but it does provide a nice overview of the situation. As there are some confirmed Internet Explorer users on this forum (and some who just prefer it) and given this time of year with people shopping online, etc., it is extremely important that you read this warning!
A few days ago, it was publicized within tech/techie circles and the community that there was a critical security problem found with IE which was starting to be exploited by criminals--who were the first ones to actually uncover the issue and then began taking advantage of it.
Microsoft only became aware of it after it became a problem--and by then, over 10,000 websites became compromised by way of stolen passwords, many countless online game passwords stolen, credit card and other personal information, etc.
Today, the company finally owned up to the fact that the issue exists and is actually encouraging people to change to other browsers--including Firefox--due to the seriousness of the problem and their own admission in not knowing how long it may take for them to resolve this by way of an emergency patch which they have supposedly started work on already.
They also expanded upon and confirmed the belief among the security groups once this issue first became known a few days ago that it is not just IE 7 that is affected by it (although, the article mostly touches upon IE7)--but that older versions of it along with the beta for 8 suffer from this problem as well.
