Adobe Active X

I messed with my PC tower for a couple of hours yesterday. Got it running and there was no problems until I had to go to Microsoft's website to download Direct X 9.0c which doesn't work as that driver can't be rolled backwards, however, I did find a work around to make my game work which I cannot discuss here. All I can say about that is "Thanks Pescado, again!"
Anyway, so after I messed with that, I went to NVidia so I could update my video card which also requires Adobe Active X to be allowed. Fine, no problem. I updated my video card and played with my sim kids for a little while.
This morning I loaded my game and it froze within a matter of minutes. I rebooted, started my game again and it froze on the start up screen. I shut the PC down and took the cover off to make sure the ram sticks are properly seated. They were not jiggly or otherwise, so I put the cover back on. Then I boot up again only this time in safe mode. I didn't put anything new on the PC this morning and it's completely offline, but I noticed in the programs folder that there was a new version of Active X installed. Instead of being version 9, it is version 10. Just for fun, I deleted it, rebooted and started my game again.
Now my game runs like a dream. It's quick, smooth and running like it's supposed to.
What's going on with Active X files? It's the only change I made and there is nothing else loaded on my PC. I've avoided re-installing Photoshop as I thought perhaps the problem was with that, however, after what happened yesterday and this morning, there is nothing wrong with Photoshop. The problem is coming from Adobe, but it's not a Photoshop issue...
