For those who haven't heard yet, Kaspersky's databases (including those containing customer information) were broken into and while all the information did appear to be accessed, the person responsible for it has stated that he does not plan on publishing the more confidential information he obtained--instead, he went on to post screenshots containing enough information that someone more maliciously-minded could potentially make use of to gain access to it and to do something with it. From having seen the blog listing that was posted by the person responsible, the vulnerability looked like a fairly simple exploit within the company's databases (and a sadly common one at that). However, it is not the first recent incident involving Kaspersky and a security problem. More recently, a number of sites they've been involved in have been having problems related to defacement/"vandalism" or targeted. They are also not the only company which been recently having issues. Bitdefender (which is largely in the more commercial market) is another company who has recently noticed a spike in attempts being made at trying to get into their site--however, so far, no one has managed to succeed and they've been able to fend off the attacks and attempts. In the situation with Kaspersky, they have stated they corrected the problem that allowed the break-in to have happened.

I don't personally have this but our school district does have Kaspersky. This is interesting to know. Thanks.
