Question about Challenges....Question2

I've got my house done and Challenges A and B complete...haven't suceeded at C yet because I didn't have enough money for a gift when I went. Lilliana was back home and I wasn't paying close attention to my game and when I turned back around there was a genie's lamp on the lawn. Am I allowed to use the lamp for the wishes?
Sorry, I just keep running into road blocks and my poor sim is killing herself.
Can we hire a maid if we have the money....especially after she gets a job?
I gave up on Challenge C. I got to 100 with the sim the first time I did it and then didn't have the money to buy a gift. I've tried 5 more times and finally gave up. If that puts me out of the running I'll live but I'm going to continue with the others if that's ok.
Also can they buy new things now....like an exercise machine and go to community lots?
