Since this didn't quite fit in with the Windows-related issues and has more to do with Microsoft, itself, I decided to put this into its own topic. With respect to the article, it involves a memo that was passed around in which a company that serves as the largest supplier to Microsoft of their contract employees (along with Microsoft being this company's largest client) has basically told the workers assigned to working at Microsoft to expect a 10% paycut due to "the current economic situation" and has asked them to agree to it as part of their contract. What the memo isn't saying, but which is well-known within the industry, is that anyone who doesn't sign and agree to it can expect to be terminated. It's significant given how many such workers Microsoft actually has. However, there's another aspect of this as well that I'm not sure just how much I can really get into either due to a possible lack of interest here about this or that it can and sometimes does touch into the area of industry politics--most of it is hardly a secret, but at the same time, it's a realm that most people are usually unwilling to talk about (at least, openly)...

Hey Charlie Chomper - I'm interested. In the last place I worked at they wanted all the contractors to agree to a 20% pay cut. I refused, but because I was finishing up in March, I didn't have to take the cut. The others negotiated it back to a 10% pay cut.

CC, I agree with Kiri. I am just as interested in it. I may be just a housewife, but hubby is always asking about if there is any news from the "Technical Section" of this forum. Besides, I think this issue is touching the whole world right now, and we all need to keep up to date with it, as it involves all of us, no matter what part of the world we are living in! Felicity

I'll try and type it up when I get a chance to as I already foresee it as being a rather long post (just to warn you), partly given the subject matter as well as in needing to provide the back story into this to put things into context.

I actually have not forgotten to do a write up involving the larger issues involved. However, I find myself (every time I make an attempt at it) being drawn back to the inner politics of the matter or just those of the industry at large or else politics of a different variety, which I'm concerned in some way may inadvertently offend some (which is, obviously, the last thing I want to do).
