For those who have not heard this yet, the site for the New York Times has been infected by malware that presents itself in the form of a pop that perform a free virus scan and tells the user they've supposedly "been infected" and further offers them a link that tells them where they can supposedly download a "fix" for it.
So, if anyone here either regularly reads this site or knows someone who does, you may want to avoid it or advise anyone who does read it to do so, for the time being. The problem appears to be linked to ads on the site, so until the questionable ad/ads are located and somehow removed from circulation, this will continue to be an issue.
