While the article involving the study results does get very technical in some areas, I was partly inspired by Felicity's recent troubles to want to post this. The summary of it is that Google performed a two and a half year study on the frequency and rates and possible causes of RAM/memory failures and issues within systems. What was of particular note was that most of the failures appeared not to be so much tied into the RAM/memory, itself, or what are sometimes referred to as "environmental factors" (such as temperature) but was more often than not the result of problems with the motherboard (such as the memory "banks"/slots) and design-related issues (such as the placement of the "banks" or routing on the motherboard). It's also a problem that is universal across the current hardware architecture commonly in use by most computers these days--regardless of whether it's a PC, Mac, workstation, laptop, most servers, etc.

Interesting, CC. Thank you for posting! RAM is so important for computers (especially for gaming ones) that it's really awful when it starts malfunctioning.

Maybe that would explain my issues with "popping" ( I almost typed pooping...LOL) RAM sticks although it's only one that pops or poops. I recently had to replace both RAM sticks in the Vista beast. I don't know what caused them to go on a rampage, but since I've put new ones it, everything has been working properly.

Some time ago, I had begun working on what was to be a PM to someone regarding testing RAM/memory (I never finished it as I did not have time for it), but I'm now wondering if perhaps I should just try and post that information to the forum instead? If anyone is interested (and assuming I can get time for it), let me know!

I'll add it to my list of tasks that I know I need to complete and will see when I can get time to.
