Disclaimer: As the title suggests, this is a reposting of an earlier thread. The information is still relevant as is the article and was important enough to where I've chosen to repost it here.
After seeing this linked to on some of the different tech sites and boards I read, and given the seriousness of the situation, I thought I'd post this here for those of you running Vista. For those unaware, Microsoft is set to release Service Pack One for it sometime next month.
So far, however, there has been a very serious problem with it during just the install process which has basically turned it into a "brick" (I'm not sure how "best" to describe this to those unfamiliar with the term in this context without getting into other examples of where this has happened--however, I suppose the best known to the public would be the recent issue with iPhones and people who tried to modify them in some fashion (in Europe, some people did so just in an effort to get them working within the system as they officially haven't been released there as of yet) coming to find their phones becoming basically useless as of the first, major update which rendered them that way). It doesn't affect the computer hardware, obviously, but just the operating system.
As a number of people purchase computers with Vista pre-installed and sometimes without the operating system disc (more often than not, it comes with rescue CDs instead) therefore making the "workaround" not really much of one and, again, given the situation, I thought I'd post the warning about this. The link I'm posting is directly from Microsoft's own forum, obviously.
