So... is anyone doing it this year? I am, though as I'm super tired atm I'll direct you to my blog for my excited rant about it! I can come back and rant a bit more here when I've slept, lol!

Yay! Yup I'm thinking about it too. I collapsed in a heap after 10K words because I wasn't fired up by the idea. But I have an idea percolating in my brain at the moment that is really wanting to get out - so YAY!

Oh, I hope you do do it, Kiri! I'm kinda mad at my brain 'cos the idea I want to do requires so much prep-work for me to do this month... but I'm going to pick a backup idea just incase I don't manage to get it done.

I switched ideas for NaNoWriMo to a much newer idea which requires less background work so I don't have to stress about it the last 2 week before it's time to type! Now I'm really looking forward to it being November!

I'm going to try this year also, I've tried several years, I think I have at least tried to follow the concept every year since Kiri first linked to it, however many years ago. Not up at the site, just privately on my own, and collapsed in a miserable puddle of FAIL every time.
I also have recently switched my idea to something I'm rather inspired about (and it deals with something I'm very passionate about as well.) from something that would have required a lot of preplanning. (But hey, preplanning is kind of necessary when you've decided you're gonna move the World Wars to later in the 20th century!)
I wish you both luck with your pieces, Emma, Kiri. Maybe I'll even like what I'm doing enough to share. ~Steph

Well... if you do it for your own sake just to get writing then there is no "fail" really. I was blown away getting to 32.000 words last year (my first, too) but I would've been just as blown away had I only gotten to 10.000. ^^ (lol, that does sound like a lot of planing).
Best of luck with your project, Steph! Hope it goes well. =)

Great! I'm looking forward to encouraging you Steph and Emma. I'm going to be making more of an effort this year. Also I'm splitting up the writing, into 5 bits. So it's really going to be 5 short stories of 10K each, rather than 1 long story of 50K.
Moving the WW's? That sounds like it will take a lot of work! Good luck though Steph - I really love your writing, so I hope you'll be allowing us to read what you do.

That sounds like an interesting setup, Kiri.
Thea, yay support!! =)
I'm getting a bit nervous that I won't be able to make it long enough since I'm doing straight (XD, okay, more like queer but still) drama this year with no supernatural aspect at all and thus no "adventure" bits.

Wow, we seem to be having a lot of overlapping problems or concerns, Emma. I'm also doing a drama based story without fantasy or supernatural. And I'm also concerned because of that that I won't have the length to do it.
Although I'm hoping that I can do some length by really exploring my characters.
I think I shall vote Kiri for the "Smarter Than the Average Bear" award! That's a very clever way of handling a story! That might be a way to get more length if I plum run out of ideas, I could always have a little spin off, same setting, even some of the same characters, but different focus. Hmmm. *Jots down that idea*
Well, whole moving the world wars thing came out of too much television. (Been bored and I need a new desk chair, mine's gotten somewhat uncomfortable for long periods.) But getting that crazy contraption off the ground is still a ways off.
Maybe I'll put together a blog for it, like you have, Kiri. I think I could use some different perspective, especially as my usual beta-reader has a "real job" now and is swamped under grading papers. And I already have the word press software downloaded, It wouldn't be hard to put together another blog. ~Steph

I can post up some of the thoughts, resources that I've been pulling together to help with the length?
And yeah - there's nothing to say that you can't write more stories in the same world as the main novel, as part of the novel.
Please do let us know your blog url if you do - I for one, can't wait to read what you're up to.
I'm also thinking about putting up all the workings out, and fiddlings with the Sims world as part of the ongoing thing.

Kiri, I have to admit just like last year your resources scare me a little, lol! The 12 year old in me who wanted to just snap her fingers and turn into a fantasy writer runs away screaming at the tought of doing so much planing and prep-work and following such a pre-set pattern for writing. Still, I really should take a closer look at it 'cos I do need to sit down and at least do some character descriptions and a main story outline so that I at least have some fixed points to improvise around (cos I think the writing itself will be pretty improvised). Thanks for sharing such a lot of tools with us though! Steph, we'll have to cheer each other on in our attempts to write realism! Heheh. For those who don't know my blog is at blog.sensiblycrazy.com. I will be putting the actual chapters up as viewable only to a specific usergroup since I have had a bit of a problem with spam and so on, so if you do want to read them all you have to do is make an account (just username and email adress required) and then I'll move you to said user group.

I kind of want to do it, but I have no ideas and no discipline to do this. Should I just start writing and see what comes up? Don't formally count me in, but I'll let you know if I decide to start and actually make some progress. I do look forward to read all of your stories! Mine will most likely be in Spanish, though...

Do it, Jessica! Hey, nothing wrong with just improvising. Any excuse to write is a good excuse =)

Hehe, that's right. It's been so long since I last enjoyed writing... I used to be good at it, too. Now I just keep thinking how bad redacted it is, and how cheesy, etc, everything I write is. Sigh. I signed up at your blog, Emma. Same username as here.

NaNoWriMo is like... the national month of ignoring that voice in your head that says you can't do it! ^^
Yay! I hope you in the right group ^^

LOL Emma - you know - you don't have to use them to plan - you CAN just use them when you get stuck, as prompts to help you move on. That's what I'm going to do this year. Also - the Liquid story Binder, is not so much a planner, as a way of tying it all together so bits don't get lost - it works regardless of the type of writer you are. Jess. Even if you only write 10 words. It's a good thing to do! Also - if you find that there's a Nanowrimo group near your geographically - you can get support (and people to chat to) with the added benefits of food and drink

Lol, I know, I know! =)
I don't think there's any groups around here, at least none listed on the website as far as I can remember.
