What is going on???

I have been working ( ) very hard on my Sims lately and it was going very well. I was taking pictures to upload and show you guys in the near future.
But today my game won't start. AT ALL.
I usually start my game with a shortcut on my desktop of the latest EP (which is the last one in TS2 since I have all EPs and stuff packs).
A window opens with TS2 figures, the list of my EPs installed and the "Play" click-able button. Under that in the same window I usually get a picture of "The Sims Medieval" as some kind of promotion.
Today the window opens. All my EPs show but instead of the Sims Medieval promotion I get a message saying "Navigation to Web page was canceled. Check you Internet connection."
My Internet connection is fine (I am writing here am I not?)
Here is what I tried (without any success)
1. Restarting my computer
2. Opening my disk drive and closing it (this usually starts the game automatically)
3. Trying to start the game the long way (My Programs/EA Games etc.)
4. I had installed some new CC 2 days ago for Teens wardrobe. My game was working fine with it, but anyway I tried taking out the folder with Teen clothing, restart my computer and... Nope not working.
The only thing I changed since last night was I downloaded this morning the latest update from Adobe for Acrobat Flash Reader.
Could that be the problem? Then I probably should try to get the last saved image of my computer before I downloaded that update? I'm sorry I don't remember what this procedure is called in English... System restoration? I could loose maybe 24 hours... I am not sure I remember how to do that... I did it a couple of weeks ago (with the help of a friend on the phone) on my laptop but it's running Windows 7 and my desktop with my Sims2 is running on XP.
Suggestions anyone???
In the meantime I will backup everything on the new external hard drive (3TB ) I just bought last week. It was on a "after Holidays sale". Oh but wait... if the Flash Update is the problem, then all my files are affected and saving the whole thing as a backup won't be useful... So should I just try to restore with my fingers crossed without saving anything?
I just can't believe I am going to have to start ALL the game all over again!!!
I was just wondering... since the message I get is: Navigation to web page was canceled, could this have anything to do with EA closing the Sims 2 page? Could this really prevent us from playing??? could this be a maneuver to get us all playing TS3 even those of us who don't like it??? That would be really wicked and would make me
Edit:
Oups! I forgot to say that if I click the "Play" button anyway, I see the small icon of a CD turning (as I usually do), there are a few clicks in my computer and then I get a very small window titled "The Sims 2" with a big "X" in a red circle and a "OK" button to click. That's it. I can't remember this ever happening before.
