I'm quite into aroma therapy sorta stuff like inscence, fragranced candles and that sorta oil you use in aroma therapy lamps/burners. Some while ago I also bought some...not sure what they're called in english but if translated from Swedish one would call them wax cakes or wax peices, basically like large chunks of material that melt and smell nice when you put them in an aroma theraphy lamp.
Anyways the bits I bought came in these cups that looked like the ones you use for baking, which gave me an idea. It used to bother me how such big bits of candle would be left sometimes even after the wick was burnt down (when using big candles, that is). And also, it bugged me how sometimes in big candles there'd be so much melted candlewax that my candles would go out from the wick "drowning". And then I remembered that we had some tiny baking cups, the sort you use for making candies or "ice-chocolate" (Swedes will know what I mean I think, lol) and...well, this was the result:
Mini-sized wax thingys
I only use the remains of fragranced candles to make them. Either, in the case of the drowning wick, I just pour it into the cup or, in the case of remains of a burnt out candle, I put the cup on my aroma lamp, put little peices of candle into the cup and heat until it's melted. This is what it looks like in action on my kickass dragon aroma therapy lamp.
I quite like them cos I think they're really cute. Sometimes though, especially now cos I have a cold, I have trouble telling whether they actually smell like a candle scented with so and so or just like a candle. This goes especially for the ones made with a cheaper scented candle, but then I remember the original candles not smelling that much either so that might be why. Am considering passing some out to some friends though to get their opinions on whether they actually fill their purpose or just look cuter than the big ones, hehe.
One problem I'm having though is that they seem prone on leaking and leaving a tiny pool of wax in the burner (you can see this on the second photo). However, I've found that the ones I bought do this too (they're admittedly handmade too but by people who've actually made a business out of it so they should know what they're doing). I've heard some people actually remove the cups alltogether and just leave the wax in the burner until it's all gone. I don't do this because I like to be able to switch scents and also switch between wax and oil. Really the only reason it bugs me is that the top bit (the one the wax goes in) of my burner is in glass so it's a bit annoying to keep it clean.
Anyways..not sure if I'm asking for comments or advice or if I just wanted to show them off but anything's welcome really.
