Today I finally mustered the courage to do faceups (that is, painting facial features, makeup etc onto the doll's faces) on my dolls! All in all I'm pretty happy with the results. They won't stay for good, but they'll do for just now. Erato (MNF Shushu): I wasn't satisfied with the first version so did a new one. Here's the first one: And the new one: I think they eyebrows and lips look less wonky in the new one. And I also gave her a tiny bit of eyeshadow. Calliope (MNF Seorin girl): The blushing was a bit wonky but got better. Gave her some birthmarks but not sure if I'm keeping those. No pictures with eyes, wigs and bodies. I don't want to put the wig Calliope doesn't like on her again, and I don't want to give her her new wig until I've done the photostory of how they got their eyes. Now at least they have faces. Not perfect ones, but they'll do for now ^^ I'm quite proud of myself, didn't think they'd turn out this well.

They both look nice! I really like Calliope's birthmarks and pretty pink lips. I think Erato's faceup is very fitting. It'll look wonderful with her dark hair.

Actually I redid Erato's faceup cos it bothered me. Updated the first post with the pics XD

Calliope's beauty marks are so cute, I hope you keep them. I look forward to the "How we got our eyes" story

Thanks moon! I think I'll keep them too. Though the next time I re-do their faces I might make 'em just a wee bit darker and add some gloss. I'll leave them like this for a while though! Hopefully the wee photostory on the eyes will come soon, just gotta get un-lazy and un-busy

Very nice for first face-ups. Some gloss on Calliope's lips would probably be a very good idea.

Thanks Pink! Yes, gloss would be a good idea. Haven't had time/energy to find out which one is best and were to buy it yet.

So pretty! I also think those pink lips and the birth marks on Calliope look cute. Gloss lipstick would look great on her! Felicity

Very pretty. Do you use a special type of paint that washes off easily for that? Would it smudge? Is there a way to make it permanent?

Thanks Jenni! I use dry pastels and watercolour pencils. You can also use acrylics but that seems complicated to me. The main thing is that nothing can have oil or such in it. It does smudge easily if you're not careful, but you spray it with a sealant (similar to the ones used to fixate graphite drawings). You usually spray ever each step of painting to make sure the bits you're satisfied with don't get smudged, cos once you've sprayed you usually have to start over if you want to change something and have it look decent.

No problem! I'm no pro myself since I've just started trying it but feel free to ask if you wonder anything else and I'll answer as best I can.

Soon, hopefully. First on my BJD-related list is to do a photostory for when they got their new eyes (already have the pictures, just gotta do the actual coding and typing). I also need to get something new to make their eyes stick with, cos the stuff I have now has dried for some reason and just crumbles when you use it. Then I'll put them together again and take photos of their faces with their eyes as well as Calliope's new wig. See, I don't want to have too many pictures/storylines piled up at once. But soon, hopefully. hehe ^^

I love their delicate faces! I love the idea of giving Calliope some birthmarks and I just love her soft lips.
